Co-op Section Improvements

Objective:
To standardize and clarify the co-op program details across multiple program pages to ensure consistency and provide a clearer understanding of the benefits and structure of co-op options.

Action Taken:

  • Standardized the co-op section across the relevant program pages.

  • Included the advantages of enrolling in the co-op program, such as career exploration, professional networking, and earning while learning.

Impact:

  • Improved the overall consistency of information and made it easier for prospective students to compare co-op options across programs.

Enhancing Program Descriptions – “What Is” Sections

Objective: Many undergraduate programs offered at the College of Biological Science (CBS), like microbiology, neuroscience, nutritional and nutraceutical sciences and Bachelor of One Health, are not commonly known or studied in high school. This can lead to confusion for students and their families about what the programs actually involve. The goal was to make these programs more straightforward to understand for prospective students.

Action Taken: I added a short, clear description of each program to help explain what they are about, such as what students will study and learn in those programs.

Impact: These new descriptions make it easier for prospective students to understand what each program involves, clearing up any confusion and making the program pages more helpful.

Showcasing Co-op Opportunities – Sample Job Titles

Objective:
To help prospective students understand the types of co-op roles they could expect during their studies by providing sample job titles for each program.

Action Taken:

  • Reached out to faculty and the Experiential Learning Hub team to collect sample co-op job titles for various programs.

  • Created and implemented a list of sample co-op job titles to align with the university’s experiential learning offerings.

Impact:

  • Provided tangible examples of the types of roles students could pursue, which helped to demystify the co-op experience and attract more prospective students.

Academic Excellence at a Glance

Objective
To enhance the CBS program pages by adding a statistics bar that highlights the University of Guelph's rankings in life sciences, biological sciences, and research, thereby promoting the university’s academic excellence to prospective students.

Action Taken

  • Research: Identified and analyzed relevant university ranking data from reputable sources, including Times Higher Education, QS Top Universities, Shanghai Ranking, US News, EduRank, and Maclean’s.

  • Content Development: Compiled and tailored ranking data for each CBS program, emphasizing unique program strengths and global standings.

  • Design and Implementation: Integrated the finalized statistics into the updated program pages.

Outcome

  • Successfully added a comprehensive and visually appealing statistics bar to all CBS program pages, highlighting the University of Guelph’s academic strengths.

  • Improved the presentation of program-specific information, enhancing the pages’ appeal to prospective students and their families.

  • Positioned the University of Guelph as a competitive choice in the fields of life sciences and biological sciences, as evidenced by positive feedback from stakeholders and an increase in page engagement metrics post-launch.

Program Page Visual Enhancements

Action Taken: Reviewed photos in SharePoint, prioritized programs without videos, updated cover photos, and coordinated new photography for programs with limited visuals. Published updated pages after editing and approval.

Outcome: Improved visual appeal and engagement of program pages, aligning content with program focus and enhancing the user experience for prospective students.
